Macromolecular Aerosols Lab

Group Members

Currently the junior group consists of PhD Student Julian Weng and I. We are hosted at the Laboratory of Atmospheric Chemistry (LAC), Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), Switzerland, in Imad El Haddad’s Molecular Cluster and Particle Processes group.

PI - Patrik Winiger, PhD

Research Interest

I am interested in short-lived climate pollutants, their sources, effects on climate, health impacts, and potential mitigation pathways. This includes not only combustion products, but also other light absorbing aerosols and impurities in snow and ice; like algae, bacteria, dust, soot, or polymers. In short: macromolecules

Experience and Education

  • Scientist, Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), Laboratory of Atmospheric Chemistry, 2022-today
  • Project leader GIS modelling, City of Zürich, Air Quality Department, 2021-2022
  • Grant Advisor and Project Manager, ETH Zürich, EUGrantsAccess, 2018-2021
  • Postdoc, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Earth and Climate unit, 2018-2019
  • PhD Student and Postdoc, Stockholm University, Department of Applied Sciences and Analytical Chemistry, 2011-2017
  • MSc Chemistry, University of Basel, 2008-2010
  • BSc Chemical Engineering, University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland, 2002-2007
  • Chemical laboratory assistant (apprenticeship), Novartis/Syngenta, 1999-2002
